About

Looking back on 50 years and 11 months in professional life

I have started working right after my childhood days, up until my retirement in 2014. After an apprenticeship as a mechanic, I have worked and gained experiences as a journeyman for a while and eventually served 18 months of compulsory military service eventually holding the rank of a sergeant. By the age of 24 I finished my first university degree as an engineer in process engineering, to be precise.

During my studies I have worked as technical illustrator, postman and waiter. You’ve gotta make a living somehow, right?

As a scholarship holder of the former Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement, I studied aerospace engineering at the RWTH University of Aachen.

After that I switched to the German army's technical Test Center for Aircraft and Airworthiness (WTD 61) in Manching.

1979 I was hired by the German Aerospace Center DLR in Göttingen, the former Aerodynamic Research Institute AVA, founded by Ludwig Prandtl.

1985 I was conferred the degree of a Doctor of Engineering from RWTH University of Aachen.

In 1992 I was appointed full professor in The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg for Aero Engines and Thermodynamics.

In November 2018 I’ve changed my first name to George. It’s way cooler.
